Title: Bookkeeper

Supervised by: Executive Director

Salary Range: $40,560 - $50,960 per year depending on experience

Type: Full-time; 40 hours per week

Location: CBDIO Fresno office


The Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indígena Oaxaqueño (CBDIO) was created in 1993 by the Frente Indígena de Organizaciones Binacionales (FIOB) to serve the indigenous migrant communities from the state of Oaxaca, Mexico that reside in California, United States (US). Each of our communities have its own language and culture that differentiate us from one another, however, all indigenous people face similar problems in our hometowns, as well as in the places to which we have migrated. Since its foundation as a non-profit entity, CBDIO has been dedicated to implement projects on worker’s rights, education, and health, providing orientation, training, counseling and referrals.


The bookkeeper is responsible for all of the accounting cycle tasks – general ledger, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and preparation of grant and corporate financial reports. Prepares monthly financial statements, and pre and post award grant reporting. Prepares grant budget and corporate budgets. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with funder’s administrative guidelines, timely receipt of revenue, accurate submission of financial reports, organizational audit, and order closure of projects. The ideal candidate would have experience working with smaller non-profit organizations and at a minimum, have some medical, grant financial management, or other project accounting experience.


  • Oversees Accounts Payable functions, ensures proper coding to grants and programs, maintaining an appropriate level of accuracy and audit trail.

  • Provides direction and oversight for the processing of payroll and related required reporting.

  • Oversees preparing of annual corporate Federal and State income tax returns and CT-2.

  • Prepares annual property tax statements.

  • Ensures accuracy of backup data and journal entries for generation of monthly, quarterly, or annual financial reports.

  • Monitor and track Medical Account Receivable transactions.

  • Maintain asset and depreciation schedule and post monthly depreciation.

  • Maintain and post accrued salary and payroll entries.

  • Prepares and monitors the master budget.

  • Prepare and submit grant invoices.

  • Provide basic financial oversight for funds related to grant projects.

  • Monitor/track the status of each program through its program life cycle.

  • Prepare budget to actual grant spending reports.

  • Prepare monthly report packages.

  • Act as the point of contact for annual audits.

  • Prepare year end schedules and other data requested by auditors.

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reconciliation of accounts.

  • Works with Executive Director to assess organization finance needs, progress, and planning.

  • Other duties as assigned or required to fulfill the purpose of the position.

  • Adheres to agency policies and procedures and advances the goals of CBDIO in a manner that embodies the organization’s vision and mission

  • Maintains strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPAA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and FAIHP policies and procedures


  • Bachelor Level Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience.

  • Two or more years of accounting experience, with a minimum of a year in a nonprofit or government setting, with nonprofit and grant experience preferred.

  • Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • QuickBooks experience or other Financial Software.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and the ability to reconcile large transactional files (pivot tables experience preferred)

  • Ability to prepare complex and complete financial reports.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve complex problems.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Strong work ethic.

  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Fully bilingual in Spanish/English (required), fluency or working knowledge of an indigenous language from Oaxaca (desired but not required).
